Life is unpredictable. That’s why Spot Trip Protection reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs if you cancel or interrupt your trip due to a covered reason. It can also reimburse you for unforeseen expenses you may incur if things don’t go as planned. Please review your plan document for full details. Exclusions apply. Who is covered?

  • Coverage is available for travelers to Alterra Mountain Company's destinations who have opted into coverage during checkout or through the destination's contact center and paid full premium.
  • Coverage is not available for people 81 years or older at time of purchase, or for itineraries valued at less than $100 USD
  • If you booked a trip for multiple people, you have up to 10 days from the date you purchased Spot Trip Protection to add your travel companions to the plan. If purchased within 10 days of your trip, you have until the day before your trip.
    • Additional travelers cannot be added once your trip has started. Once purchased, add additional travelers in your account or start a chat with our team on this page. This ensures that Spot Trip Protection benefits are extended to everyone on your trip. If you skip this step, your additional travelers won’t be covered.
    • Submitting a Trip Protection claim with more travelers than listed as your traveler companions may impact or reduce your claim reimbursement amount, if eligible.

What is covered?

  • Up to 100% of the non-refundable insured trip cost for covered trip cancellations and trip interruptions
  • Medical evacuation costs up to $500,000
  • Lost, stolen, damaged and destroyed bags up to $1,500—max $500 per item
  • Delayed bags up to $1,000—max $200 per day
  • Rental car damage up to $25,000
  • Emergency accident and sickness coverage up to $25,000 per trip
  • 24/7 non-insurance travel assistance services are also included

When are you covered?

  • Trip Cancellation coverage applies if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason like family emergencies, sickness, inclement weather, jury duty, military duty, involuntary relocation for work (>250 miles) or involuntary termination from work.
  • Trip delay benefits apply if your trip is delayed due to a covered reason such as common carrier delays, traffic accidents, theft of passports or visas, inclement weather, injury or natural disaster. Plans contain additional covered reasons for trip cancellation and trip delay as well as additional benefits.

When does trip cancellation coverage begin and end?

Coverage begins at 12:01 a.m. the day after the date the required plan cost is received. This coverage automatically ends once you depart on your trip or the time you cancel your trip.

When do other coverages end?

Most coverages end on the last scheduled day of your trip, the day you complete your trip, the day you return from your trip, the day you cancel your trip or the day this plan expires—whichever comes first.

What is included in Spot Trip Protection?

Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption for listed unforeseen covered events including, but not limited to:

  • You or a family member's or travel companion’s death, sickness or injury.
  • Inclement weather that causes a: delay, closure of public roadways by local government authorities or cancellation by a common carrier for at least twenty four (24) consecutive hours of a common carrier on which you or your traveling companion are scheduled to travel which prevents you from reaching your scheduled destination or scheduled trip departure city;
  • Your or your traveling companion’s primary place of residence or scheduled destination accommodation is made uninhabitable due to a natural disaster, vandalism or burglary.
  • Your or your traveling companion’s current employer requires you to transfer 250 miles or more which requires you or your traveling companion’s primary residence to be relocated.
  • Revocation of you or your traveling companion’s previously granted military leave or re-assignment. Official written notice of the revocation or re-assignment by a supervisor or commanding officer of the appropriate branch of service will be required.
  • You or your traveling companion are involuntarily terminated or laid off from your employment. You must have been an active employee with the same employer for at least one (1) continuous year. This provision is not applicable to temporary or seasonal employment, independent contractors, freelancers or self-employed persons.
  • Spot Trip Protection also includes medical and travel-specific benefits, like Trip Delay and Baggage Delay, as well as access to 24/7 non-insurance emergency travel assistance services, all designed to help you when the unexpected disrupts your trip.

What is the total costs of Spot Trip Protection?

Spot Protection Plan is 7.25% of the trip cost.

How far does a destination need to be in order to be considered an insurable trip?

Your trip must be 10 miles or more from your primary residence.

When must trip cancellations be reported?

You must report all cancellations of items on your itinerary for which the plan cost has been paid to the travel supplier within 72 hours of the qualifying event.
