When does trip cancellation coverage begin and end?

The Spot Service is a service that enables users to obtain accident medical expense and/or accidental death and dismemberment coverage through certain insurance carriers with whom we partner to allow You to sign up for a Coverage begins at 12:01 a.m. the day after the date the required plan cost is received. This coverage automatically ends once you depart on your trip or the time you cancel your trip.

When do other coverages end?

Most coverages end on the last scheduled day of your trip, the day you complete your trip, the day you return from your trip, the day you cancel your trip or the day this plan expires—whichever comes first.

What's included in Spot Trip Protection?

Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption for listed unforeseen covered events including, but not limited to:

  • You or a family member's or travel companion’s death, sickness or injury.
  • Inclement weather that causes a: delay, closure of public roadways by local government authorities or cancellation by a common carrier for at least twenty four (24) consecutive hours of a common carrier on which you or your traveling companion are scheduled to travel which prevents you from reaching your scheduled destination or scheduled trip departure city;
  • Your or your traveling companion’s primary place of residence or scheduled destination accommodation is made uninhabitable due to a natural disaster, vandalism or burglary.
  • A transfer of you or your traveling companion by the employer by whom you or your traveling companion are employed requires their principal residence to be relocated.
  • Revocation of you or your traveling companion’s previously granted military leave or re-assignment. Official written notice of the revocation or re-assignment by a supervisor or commanding officer of the appropriate branch of service will be required.
  • You or your traveling companion are involuntarily terminated or laid off from your employment. You must have been an active employee with the same employer for at least one (1) continuous year. This provision is not applicable to temporary or seasonal employment, independent contractors, freelancers or self-employed persons.
  • 24/7 non-insurance travel assistance services are also included. Check your plan document for more insurance benefits and covered reasons. Coverages may vary and not all coverage is available in all jurisdictions. Additional terms and conditions apply.

When must trip cancellations be reported?

You must report all cancellations of items on your itinerary for which the plan cost has been paid to the travel supplier within 72 hours of the qualifying event.

How far does a destination need to be in order to be considered an insurable trip?

Your trip must be 10 miles or more from your primary residence.

Is Spot Trip Protection refundable and can trip costs be updated?

Spot Travel Protection may be cancelled for up to 10 days from the date of purchase or up until the departure date for your Trip.

You may reduce the covered amount in accordance with any itinerary cost reductions for up to 10 days from the date of purchase and Spot will refund you for any reduction in premium.

You may also increase the amount covered by Spot Trip Protection at any time before your trip commences.
